As a family, we serve once a week at The Friends of Saint Andrew. It’s a Kitchen Soup that serves hot meals five days a week to the homeless and any person in need. We also provide other services like receiving mail for them and help them to get an ID and many other things.

About Friends of St. Andrew

Every weekday, up to 150 people walk through the doors of Friends of St. Andrew for a hot meal, for a food basket, to make a phone call, or to receive mail. It all began more than 30 years ago, when a small group of Queen of Peace parishioners saw a need to serve the poor and the homeless in the community. Today, Friends is the only soup kitchen in Aurora; it’s staffed by 80 volunteers and funded through donations, mostly from Queen of Peace parishioners.

History of Friends of St. Andrew

Friends of Saint Andrew began as the brainchild of a small group of Queen of Peace parishioners and the pastor sometime during the fall of 1986.  Initially, this group saw the need for homeless persons to have a place to get in out of the elements, have a cup of coffee and a pastry and have access to newspapers for job hunting; they decided to lend a helping hand by creating our parish outreach ministry.

After a few short years, this vision blossomed into much more than its humble beginnings.  We now serve the poor and homeless of Aurora by providing hot lunches (about 130 each day), food baskets, toiletries, photo IDs with optional bus passes, and referrals to other agencies that can fill needs that we aren’t able to address.
